REPORT: Aerobaltic Airshow 2018

Great weather, beautiful surroundings, stunning visuals and sound, and a multitude of skilled pilots and modern machines in the air - welcome to Gdynia Aerobaltic Airshow 2018!

An event of this scale, taking place over a huge area (Gdynia Kosakowo Airport, city beach and promenade) demands great care when it comes to sound reinforcement.

Gigant Sound is an audio solutions provider. The owner, Jerzy Taborowski, describes his company as a specialist in demanding and unusual tasks, with 25 years of experience in sound, lighting, multimedia and stage technology. This includes working on the largest events in the world, such as the World Youth Day (you can read the related article here). It's no surprise that it was Gigant Sound who were chosen to provide solutions for this years' Aerobaltic Airshow.

For this event, the company chose a large Outline GTO system, as sound intelligibility over large distances was crucial. The GTO modules were installed in arrays spaced 150 metres apart across the runway. Thanks to the long throw (approx. 250 metres) of the Outline GTO systems, the sound was clearly heard over the entire audience area.

A second, much larger installation was deployed in the city beach/promenade area. The main system consisted of Outline GTO arrays (12 modules per side) accompanied by an end-fire array of Outline subwoofers, as well as additional delay towers. The beach and the crowded promenade span an area over 600 metres in length - a distance long enough to pose a challenge even for the most experienced system engineers. Besides providing clear speech reproduction, this large system had to cater for live performances, sound effects and music playback during the laser shows.

The Aerobaltic Airshow 2018 in Gdynia is an unique event which hosts guests and performers from all over the globe. Two days of breath-taking air shows, exhibitions, shows and entertainment couldn't have happened without a top-notch, professional sound system - and according to the show promoters, the Gigant Sound company fulfilled their duties exceptionally.
